Salads. As Homer Simpson says: you don’t make friends with salad. Well, today, I hope that is not always true. Cause sometimes in your life, you are going to have to eat salad – and we want to make sure that if you gotta eat salad, we hope it’ll be a good one. After all, Homer might have changed his tune if it was a bacon salad. In that vein, I’ve looked and looked and found the best bacon salad recipes the Internet can produce.
Spinach Salad Recipe with Bacon and Feta
Here’s a secret you probably could have guessed: I’m not a big fan of greens. My Mom always had a bunch of trouble trying to get me to eat them. And by far the one I didn’t like the most was spinach. But with something like this, I could totally sing another tune. Spinach and bacon go really well together: spinach has a bitterness that balances out the sweet and savoury bacon. And bacon really helps moisten up spinach. With recipes like these, I might even give Popeye a run for his money.
Chanterelle, Bacon and Plum Salad with Blue Cheese
I always like a good mix of bacon and fruit. Just like there’s nothing more classic than the pairing of pineapple and pork, for instance, or prosciutto and melon, the sweet and savoury mixture of bacon and a fruit can really awesome-ify a dish. And with summer coming up, a dish that gets us using some plums is only a good idea. And I didn’t even mention the blue cheese!
Bulgar and Bacon Spinach Salad
Sometimes it’s good to mix up the salads with a bit of a different carb. This baby offers you some bulgar – a wheat that is often used in Eastern European and Middle Eastern cooking. Like it does in many recipes, the bacon here livens up what could be something dull and everyday. Bacon: doing the heavy lifting in recipes since forever.
Broccoli and Bacon Salad
The one green I’ve always liked is broccoli. It’s so fresh tasting, and it has a crunchy flavourfulness that all of the other vegetables must envy. This recipe totally nails the amazingness of tossing bacon into just a big pile of broccoli. Even better, the dressing for the salad is made from the bacon grease and a squidge of mayo and mustard. Yum-tastic!
Warm Strawberry Bacon Orzo Spinach Salad
Remember when I said that sweet fruit and bacon go well together? And so do bacon and spinach? Well, this recipe sorta takes both those ideas and runs with it. The author, Jessica, refuses to classify this as “salad” cause she hates vegetables. Jessica is clearly a very smart woman. I don’t know what this is either, but I think it is fifteen different types of super-duper.
