My love of cheeseburgers is well-known and documented. I am of the mind that the bacon cheeseburger may be the finest example of North American cuisine in history, and never pass up the opportunity to try a new one. When a new burger place opens up in my town, I am sure to be in line on opening day, ordering up a bacon cheeseburger with all the fixings. It’s no small wonder then that bacon cheeseburgers have featured quite prominently on the Republic of Bacon during my tenure here, something that I don’t intend to change. The cheeseburger makes for such a perfect vehicle for bacon, it’s hard to resist writing about (never mind eating).
And so, it is with great pleasure that we would like to announce that the previous record has been shattered, and, just this past weekend, the largest bacon cheeseburger ever served entered the world.
Making the World’s Biggest Bacon Cheeseburger
Chefs at Black Bear Casino Resort near Carlton, Minnesota are responsible for bringing us this burger if epic proportions. The huge dish was assembled as part of the resort’s annual Big Burger Bash – and this year, they really decided to outdo themselves. It took the staff a staggering four hours just to cook the patty all the way through – and, when it was time, a crane was needed to help flip the mammoth burger over.
The resulting burger was certified as a genuine record holder, as Guinness World Records representative Phillip Robertson was on hand to supervise the building of the burger and declare it a legitimate winner. He also noted that the record-stealing burger was not only a feat of remarkable team work, but that is “actually tastes really good.” A victory in our books.
How Big Is The World’s Biggest Bacon Cheeseburger
This thing isn’t just big; it is truly gargantuan. Here are some of the stats:
- the burger measured over 10 feet in diameter
- it weighs in at an astonishing 2,014 lbs, or 914 kg, which is over a tonne
- the burger was topped with 27 kilograms of bacon!!!
- other toppings included 23 kilograms of lettuce, 23 kilograms of sliced onions, 18 kilograms of pickles and 18 kilograms of cheese
- it is estimated that the burger contains a whopping 4.1 million calories
For a little bit of perspective: this gigantic burger didn’t just break the previous record, it shattered it. The former title-holder weighed in at a measly 400 kg – less that have of this monster burger!
